A pool heater that won’t fire is frustrating, but the cause is often something simple and safe to check. It’s just as often a gas or electrical fault that shouldn’t be touched. The trick is knowing which side of that line you’re on.
Check the safe basics first
Before assuming the heater is broken, run through the checks that don’t involve opening anything. Confirm it has power and no breaker has tripped, set the thermostat well above the current water temperature, and make sure the pump is running, because every pool heater needs steady water flow to fire at all. Flow is the hidden culprit
The most overlooked reason a heater won’t run is water flow, not the heater. Why won't my pool heater turn on at all?
